Years of displacement and difficult living conditions have inspired an Ezidi man in Duhok to develop his own heating and cooling device.

Mehran, who has lived under the difficult conditions faced by displaced Ezidis in Duhok, designed and assembled the device himself. In footage published by AlSharqiya TV, he is seen working on the machine and demonstrating his invention, which is intended to provide both cooling during the intense summer heat and heating during colder months.

What makes Mehran’s story particularly notable is the environment in which his work has developed. Rather than allowing the limitations of displacement to end his ambitions, he has used the challenges around him as motivation to experiment, build and create practical solutions.

His work offers a different picture of Ezidis living in displacement, not only as people enduring the consequences of genocide and displacement, but also as individuals continuing to create, develop ideas and pursue their ambitions despite difficult circumstances.
