Kosovo Citizen Indicted for Crimes Against Yazidi Women in Syria and Iraq

Kosovo’s Special Prosecution has indicted a Kosovo citizen, identified as M.D., for crimes against Yazidi girls and women during their involvement in Syria and Iraq from 2014 to 2017. M.D. is allegedly an Albanian from Metohija, Kosovo.
The charges include crimes against humanity and serious violations of armed conflict laws. The case has been transferred to the Special Department of Pristina Basic Court, and the suspect is currently detained in Kosovo.

Since 2011, about 300 Kosovo citizens joined ISIS in Syria.1
Kosovo has since outlawed participation in foreign armed groups and has prosecuted over 120 citizens for terrorism-related charges, with many others under investigation. Over 260 Kosovars, including fighters and their families, have been repatriated from Syria since 2019, with casualties among those who participated in the conflict.
