Ezidi researcher Issa Saado has called for accountability over the security failures that accompanied the ISIS attack on Shigur (Sinjar) in 2014, saying the Ezidi genocide file still requires full truth, justice and redress for victims.
In comments reported by Al-Maalomah, Saado said that accountability should include the commanders who were responsible for the security file in Shigur during the events of 2014.
Saado argued that the issue is no longer only a political demand, but a matter of justice for the victims of the Ezidi genocide. He said that the withdrawal of Peshmerga forces during the ISIS attack must be examined as part of a wider process of revealing the full circumstances of what happened.
He also accused KDP/Al-Parti-affiliated formations of bearing significant responsibility for what happened to Ezidis after their withdrawal from Shigur in the face of the ISIS advance.
According to Saado, achieving justice requires opening all files related to Shigur and holding accountable any party whose negligence or responsibility is proven under the law.
He stressed that the suffering of Ezidis will not end without revealing the full truth and holding all parties involved in the tragedy accountable.
