Ezidi Malik J. to speak at Liberation Lunch at Museum Nienoord

LEEK, Netherlands — Museum Nienoord will organise a Liberation Lunch for the first time on Tuesday, May 5. The event has already been held for several years at different locations across the Netherlands.

Visitors are welcome to attend the lunch from 12:00 to 13:30, where they will be served the Freedom Soup prepared by Janny van der Heijden and offered by the Vfonds, together with a sandwich buffet. The lunch will be arranged as a running buffet, and in good weather it will take place outside.

A special guest during the lunch will be 19-year-old Malik J, an Ezidi refugee who is currently waiting for his future in the AZC. He is also a finalist in Mister Nederland in May. During the event, Malik will speak about his joy about freedom in the Netherlands. He will be introduced by museum director Geert Pruiksma.

Malik has also received attention for his new book, Between Bullets and Dreams. He is willing to sign copies that visitors bring with them.

Those who wish to attend can register until April 28 by emailing evenementen@museumnienoord.nl and writing “Liberation lunch” in the subject line. They should also mention how many people will attend. Visitors may decide themselves how much they want to contribute. The account number of Museum Nienoord is NL85 RABO 0335 1335 25, also with “Liberation lunch” as reference.
