What a Coincidence That the Kurdish Farmers’ Land Law Was Bundled with the General Amnesty Law
How convenient that the law on “Kurdish” lands happened to be included in the law package with the General Amnesty Law.
Sometimes the clearest answers are right in front of us. Previously, we published an article that explains why the amendment to the Iraqi General Amnesty Law No. (27) of 2016 is wrong. The amnesty will, in practice, make it possible to release prisoners who have been involved in ISIS activities. This is not only wrong from a legal perspective, but it is also a moral insult to all Ezidis who have suffered from the ISIS-perpetrated genocide in 2014.
This article is aimed at all Kurds who are anti-Ezidi and all the Ezidis who claim that they are “Ezidi Kurds.” Let’s see how you explain this phenomenon.
The three laws that were passed on January 21, 2025, were:
- The Personal Status Law, which allows girls to be married off from the age of 9,
- The General Amnesty Law, which de facto pardons ISIS terrorists, and
- The annulment of Ba’athist-era decisions regarding the confiscation of Kurdish and Turkmen farmers’ land in Kirkuk.
All three laws were voted on and passed as a package, meaning that either all three would be passed or that all three would be “discarded.” This, in itself, is prohibited, since Article 134 of the 2022 Internal Procedures of the Iraqi Council of Representatives prohibits multiple laws from being passed as a package. If the Iraqi parliament is truly an institution where the rule of law prevails, then all of these laws should be considered illegal due to procedural flaws.
The Kurdish MPs have stated that they were “forced” to vote in favour of this package because this was the only way to reclaim previously confiscated agricultural land in Kirkuk.
Were the Kurdish MPs really “forced”? Really?
Would the situation be the same if the victims of ISIS were Kurds? Would Kurdish politicians still feel “forced” to vote in favor of the package law if the amnesty law meant that terrorists, who have committed crimes against Kurdish women, would be released?
It is obvious that there was an agreement between the Kurdish, Shia, and Sunni MPs. One gets their lands back, one gets to implement Sharia law on women, and the other gets the chance to free their terrorist brothers. It is indeed a very dirty political agreement in which the majority of Iraq is able to get their wishes while seriously violating the rights of women and the Ezidi people.
As frustrating as it may be, although ethically and morally wrong, it is natural and understandable considering how Iraq “works.” However, we want to use this very clear example to demonstrate to all Kurds who are anti-Ezidi and especially to all Ezidis who claim that they are “kurd-ezidis,” that Kurds don’t consider Ezidis to be Kurds. This is indeed correct, but many Ezidis have lost their memory and become naïve tools in the hands of Kurdish propaganda. Therefore, we are just pointing out this very evident fact and reminding these “Kurd-Ezidis” to stop fooling themselves and stop with their actions that are damaging the survival of the ancient Ezidi ethnicity and identity.
It is very ironic when many Ezidis, who don’t have enough religious or academic knowledge, actively become involved in and a tool for extremist Kurdish propaganda. What is even more ironic is the fact that these “kurd-ezidis” harass and humiliate Ezidis who stay loyal to their heritage and the suffering of their ancestors. Instead of feeling ashamed of being fooled and becoming traitors to their own heritage, they become aggressive and continue the unfinished work of the Kurds who have killed, looted, and harassed their ancestors. “kurd-ezidis,” your ancestors must be turning in their graves due to your actions and your immorality. But remember this: you are going to be used and discarded in the same way you have betrayed your own people. The Kurdish MPs would never feel “forced” to vote in favor of a law that is against the interests of Kurds. We hope that you come to your senses and jump off the train you have boarded. Because the longer you stay, the harder it will be to get off and find your right destination.
There is an Ezidi saying:
Ceçke gura, meryara tu car nabên bra.
Wolf cubs will never be brothers to humans.
We leave our readers to interpret the meaning of it.
