US Ambassador Celebrates Ezidi New Year 6775 in Armenia

On April 16th, 2025, the Ezidi people celebrated the arrival of the Ezidi New Year, marking the year 6775 according to the ancient Ezidi calendar. The celebration, known as Charshama Sare Salê, Charshama Sare Niane or just as Sarsal—the New Year—was held at Quba Mêrê Dîwanê in Aknalich, Armenia, the largest Ezidi temple in the world.

Among the notable guests was the United States Ambassador to Armenia, Her Excellency Kristina Kvien. Accompanied by Mr. Khdr Hajoyan, President of the Ezidi National Union, Ambassador Kvien took part in the vibrant celebration filled with traditional Ezidi music, sacred dance, and ceremonial visits to the Temple of Tawusî Melek and the Seven Angels.

The US Embassy in Armenia highlighted the event on its official channels, stating: “The music, traditional dances, and a visit to Quba Mêrê Dîwanê showcased the Ezidi people’s rich cultural heritage and Armenia’s religious tolerance.”

This year’s celebration served not only as a spiritual and cultural gathering but also as a strong affirmation of the enduring presence and identity of the Ezidi people in Armenia and beyond.
