A commemoration marking 12 years since the genocide committed against the Ezidi people by ISIS on 3 August 2014 will be held in Kalkar, Germany, on Sunday, 2 August 2026.

The event is being organised by Verein der Eziden am unteren Niederrhein. According to the organisers, the programme will honour the memory of those murdered during the genocide while also drawing attention to the continuing challenges facing the Ezidi people.

The programme will include discussions on the current situation in Sinjar, ongoing reconstruction efforts and the circumstances of Ezidis living in Germany. Politicians, representatives of non-governmental organisations and members of different faith communities are expected to attend.

The organisers note that, despite the passage of twelve years, many Ezidi families continue to live with the consequences of the genocide. Thousands remain displaced, many are still unable to return safely to Sinjar, and significant challenges to reconstruction and long-term stability remain unresolved.

The commemoration also aims to raise public awareness of the continuing search for justice, accountability and lasting support for Ezidi survivors.
