On Saturday, March 1, 2025, the Polo del ‘900 in Turin inaugurated a compelling photographic exhibition titled “Luoghi di memoria – Popolo Ezida e spazio sacro” (Places of Memory – Ezidi People and Sacred Space). The exhibition, which runs until March 22, showcases the work of Ghiath Rammo, an archaeologist affiliated with the Italian archaeological mission in Iraq

A Journey into Ezidi Culture and History

Rammo’s research focuses on the religious and sociocultural traditions of the Ezidi people, an ancient group with a distinct spiritual and cultural heritage. The Ezidis have endured severe persecution throughout history, most recently suffering genocide at the hands of Daesh (ISIS). His photographs offer a rare glimpse into Ezidi sacred spaces and traditions, capturing their resilience and deep-rooted spirituality.

The exhibition is not just a visual journey but also an opportunity for reflection on the Ezidi people’s struggles and survival. Through evocative imagery, visitors can explore the symbolic and architectural elements of Ezidi places of worship, particularly those dedicated to Melek Tā’ūs, the Peacock Angel, a central figure in Ezidi faith.
