An upcoming event in Oldenburg will bring attention to Ezidi voices, memory, and the role of remembrance in a diverse society.

The event, titled “From Silence to Visibility – Ezidi Voices in Oldenburg,” will take place on Saturday, 14 November 2026, at 10:00. It is free of charge, with registration required by 6 November through Stadtmuseum Oldenburg.

The programme explores how personal, family, social, and historical memories shape both individuals and society. It also raises questions about who is remembered, whose stories are left out, and how a more inclusive culture of remembrance can be built in Germany.

Participants will work creatively with zines, small self-made magazines or booklets that allow people to reflect on memory, family history, migration, identity, and the future. The workshop is aimed at young people and adults who want to engage with questions of remembrance, belonging, and social history.

The event is connected to the work of Ezidi Forum Oldenburg e.V., which was founded in 1993 by Ezidis who had migrated to Oldenburg. The organisation works to strengthen Ezidi visibility, participation, cultural life, and social support.

Oldenburg is one of the most important centres of Ezidi life in Germany, with thousands of Ezidis living in the city. Through youth work, women’s meetings, senior support, counselling, integration work, creative courses, and Ezidi religious education, the forum has become an important space for identity, dialogue, and belonging.
