Iraq’s Ministry of Culture has held a seminar in Baghdad focusing on Ezidi heritage, the consequences of the 2014 genocide and the conditions needed for Ezidis who have left Iraq to return safely.

Researchers and specialists discussed Ezidi history, traditions, religious sites and cultural preservation. Speakers also highlighted the need for security, reconstruction, public services, justice and equality in areas affected by the genocide.

Ezidi researcher Khaldun S. E. said such events can help improve wider public understanding of Ezidi culture and correct misconceptions about Ezidis in Iraq.

The seminar also addressed the continuing effects of the genocide and stressed the importance of preserving Ezidi heritage for future generations.

For Ezidis, however, meaningful return depends not only on cultural recognition but on security, reconstruction, justice and the ability to return voluntarily and safely to their homeland.
