Iraqi parliamentary leaders extend Ezidi New Year greetings and call for justice

Several senior figures in Iraq’s parliament issued messages on April 15 to mark the Ezidi New Year, combining congratulations with calls for justice, reconstruction, coexistence, and the protection of Ezidi rights.

Adnan Faihan Al-Dulaimi, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, extended his congratulations to the Ezidi people in Iraq and around the world, expressing hope that the new year would bring goodness, security, stability, and prosperity. He described the occasion as part of Iraq’s rich cultural and civilizational heritage and said it should be used to strengthen peaceful coexistence, citizenship, solidarity, equality, and fairness among all parts of society.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Farhad Atroushi also congratulated Ezidis on the occasion of the Ezidi New Year and reaffirmed his commitment to protecting their rights, ensuring justice for victims’ families, and providing redress for the harm they have suffered. In his message, he said the occasion reflects the deep cultural roots of the Ezidi people and their strong connection to their land and identity, while also highlighting Iraq’s religious and cultural diversity as a source of strength.

Atroushi stressed the need for continued national and international efforts to protect Ezidi rights and deliver justice, especially after the crimes and violations suffered in recent years. He also called for support for the return of displaced people to their areas, the reconstruction of those areas, and the creation of conditions for a dignified life that preserves Ezidi heritage and protects Ezidi cultural and religious identity.

Speaker of Parliament Haibet Alhalbousi likewise sent congratulations to the Ezidi people in Iraq and worldwide, wishing them days filled with goodness, calm, and peace. He said national efforts must continue to achieve justice for Ezidis and guarantee their rights in a way that strengthens peaceful coexistence and social stability.

Together, the three messages placed the Ezidi New Year within a broader national context, presenting it not only as a moment of celebration, but also as an occasion to affirm justice, equality, and the place of the Ezidi people within Iraq’s diverse social fabric.
