President Rashid Calls for Protection of Ezidi Rights and Return of Displaced Families

Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid met Ezidi members of parliament in Baghdad and stressed the need for justice, reconstruction, and the safe return of displaced persons.

Baghdad — Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid on April 7 received a delegation of Ezidi members of parliament at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad, where discussions focused on the condition of the Ezidi people and the broader political, security, and economic challenges facing Iraq. The delegation included MPs Murad Ismail, Khalid Sido, and Basman Nafkhosh.

According to statements reported by the Iraqi News Agency and the Iraqi Presidency, President Rashid stressed the need to protect the rights of the Ezidi people, secure justice for victims, and complete the procedures necessary for the return of displaced persons. He also emphasized that return efforts must ensure a dignified life through concrete government action and legislation that directly affects citizens’ lives.

The Ezidi representatives expressed appreciation for the president’s efforts and his declared support for the Ezidi people. They also called for faster reconstruction, improved services, and fulfillment of constitutional obligations that guarantee fair representation and protect the rights of all Iraqis, including Ezidis.

The meeting comes at a time when displacement, insecurity, and delayed reconstruction continue to weigh heavily on Ezidis in Iraq. A parliamentary fact-finding report published in late March said Ezidi representatives highlighted the plight of around 350,000 displaced Ezidis, the existence of 96 mass graves, and more than 2,500 missing persons, alongside continuing demands for justice and accountability for ISIS crimes.

For Ezidis the issues raised in Baghdad are not only political promises but urgent questions of survival, dignity, and return. Any meaningful progress will depend on whether Iraq’s leaders can translate statements of support into security, reconstruction, justice, and lasting protection for Ezidis.
