Nadia Murad Honored with Doctorate in Peru for Her Work Defending Human Rights

Ezidi activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nadia Murad has been awarded an honorary doctorate by César Vallejo University in Peru, recognising her global advocacy for human rights and her fight against sexual violence in conflict.

The tribute was presented during the university’s 34th anniversary ceremony, where Murad’s tireless efforts to bring the Ezidi cause to international attention were described as an example of courage, resilience, and principled leadership. The university emphasised that few distinctions carry such symbolic weight, noting her continued work supporting survivors of violence.

In her remarks, Murad highlighted the transformative power of education and its role in strengthening societies facing crisis; a message deeply connected to the ongoing struggle of Ezidis whose homeland in Iraq remains scarred by the 2014 genocide carried out by ISIS.

Today, many Ezidis are still displaced, and survivors, especially women, continue to rebuild their lives after enduring captivity, trauma, and the long-term consequences of the atrocities committed against them. Murad’s recognition in Peru serves as a reminder of their enduring fight for justice, dignity, and recovery through the principles of Sharfadin and cultural resilience.

César Vallejo University also highlighted the ceremony through a dedicated YouTube video, sharing Murad’s message with a wider audience. The university’s media platforms emphasized her visit as a moment of inspiration for students and viewers across Peru.

¡Nadia Murad, bienvenida a la Universidad César Vallejo! 💙❤️
