Rudaw recently published a new propaganda article claiming Ezidis are “Kurds”. The article is about Neçirvan Barzani visiting Germany’s Minister of Federal Economic Cooperation and Development, Reem Alabali-Radovan, during which he thanked Germany for its support, particularly for “Kurdish Yazidis”. This is problematic on any levels because Barazani has for clear reasons decided that he has a right to speak on behalf of Ezidis and also call them “Kurdish Yezidi” – again!
Ezidis are their own ethic people, not Kurds, not Arabs, not Turkish or any other ethnicity! Just Ezidi. We have our own history, our own problems, and our own voice. Barzani and Rudaw cannot speak for us, and they have no right to claim that Ezidis owe them loyalty. Who are you Barazni and who has given you the right to have the audacity to think that you can speak and represent Ezidis? You cannot even take care of your own people – the Kurds, and you think you have the right to speak on behalf of Ezidis?
– Who do you think you are?
The truth is that Germany supports displaced Ezidis because it is their responsibility under international law. Barzani and the KRG are not our saviors. For decades, Ezidis in Iraq faced stolen land, bureaucratic obstacles, and social marginalization under KRG rule. Many of our citiesvillages were ignored, our needs sidelined, and our people forced to leave for Europe. Now the KRG tries to act like they are helping us out of generosity. This is a lie and an insult.
Barzani and Rudaw also talk about “coexistence” and “protecting communities” in the region. But words are not enough. While they speak about harmony, Ezidis continue to face obstacles to property, return, and political representation. They ignore the fact that we have suffered on our own land for generations. Calling us “Kurdish Ezidis” erases our identity and history. Ezidis are not Kurds. We are an ancient people with our own culture, religion, and political agency.
Anyone who tries to claim that Ezidis are “Kurdish” is trying to rewrite history and take away our future. Our identity, our religion, and our rights cannot be negotiated or co-opted by someone else’s political agenda. The KRG may try to use us for legitimacy in Europe, but Ezidis see the truth. We are not their supporters, and we do not answer to them.
Ezidis have survived centuries of persecution, displacement, and genocide. We are still here because of our strength, our Sharfadin faith, and our determination to remain independent. No politician, no media outlet, and no propaganda campaign can take that away. The world must understand this. Ezidis are their own people, with their own history, their own rights, and their own future.
So Mr. Barzani, remove your fake mask and show Germany the truth about how you treat Ezidis. Stop trying to get political and economic support by pretending to be something you are not. Your wolf face shows through the lamb’s mask.
