The Mayor of Lincoln, Leirion Gaylor Baird, has signed a proclamation recognizing April as Ezidi Recognition Month in the city.
According to reporting by the Lincoln Journal Star, the proclamation formally acknowledges the Ezidi people living in Lincoln. The announcement was made last week when Mayor Baird signed the official document at City Hall.
The recognition acknowledges the presence of Ezidis in Lincoln and designates April as a month to recognize their history and identity. Many Ezidis in the United States arrived after the 2014 genocide against the Ezidi people.
The Ezidi people follow the ancient religion of Sharfadin and originate from Iraq, where their ancestral homeland is located.
The proclamation makes Lincoln one of the cities publicly recognizing the Ezidi people through an official municipal declaration.
