On 30 June 2025, the months-long Hamburg event series “Ten years after the genocide against the Ezidis | Remembering – Coming to terms – Consequences” came to a close. Since August 2024, Women for Justice e. V., Interkulturelle Werkstatt e. V., and the Landeszentrale für politische Bildung Hamburg had organised a diverse programme to mark a decade since the genocide against the Ezidi people, who continue to preserve their ancient faith, Sharfadin, and fight for justice.

The series invited the public to engage with the history and ongoing consequences of the atrocities through exhibitions, lectures, film screenings, and discussions. Survivors’ voices and cultural heritage stood at the heart of the events, fostering awareness and encouraging reflection on how societies can build a meaningful culture of remembrance and respect for diversity.

The final day, 30 June, began with the placement of commemorative plaques on trees in Hamburg at 16:30, a quiet act of tribute to the Ezidi victims and survivors. Later, at 18:00, the closing event took place in the Ballsaal of the Millerntor Stadium, home of 1. FC St. Pauli, bringing together speakers and guests to discuss “Culture of remembrance and diversity”.

By concluding the series, the organisers reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the experiences and identity of the Ezidi people are not forgotten and that remembrance continues to inspire action for justice and inclusion.More information about the series and its vision can still be accessed here.
