Ezidi Times is happy to start 2026 with an exclusive interview with the Ezidi artist SELODEUXSEPT.
We would like to begin by congratulating SELODEUXSEPT on surpassing 200,000 streams on Spotify with Je m’appelle Ezidi. It is the beginning of many years of success and fame that lie ahead of him.
The creation of Je m’appelle Ezidi and its message

Parts of Je m’appelle Ezidi had been finished for a long time. The first verse was written more than a year earlier. Back then, it was just a simple Instagram part that I rapped in my car. At the end of 2024, after years of posting Insta-parts, I finally wanted to release my first complete single. One thing was immediately clear to me: the first song had to be something close to my heart.

Je m’appelle Ezidi is not only a strong artistic statement of identity, but it also feels deeply connected to the historical moment Ezidis around the world are living in today, a time when Ezidis from, for example, Turkey, Russia, Syria, and Iraq are growing closer despite distance and displacement. Having listened to Je m’appelle Ezidi for some time, one cannot help but wonder what the motivation behind the song was.
When asked what he thinks made the song so special and impactful, SELODEUXSEPT explains that he wanted to create something that reflects his culture and religion. For many years, he had been missing an Ezidi rap song that does not only speak about grief and persecution, but also about pride and strength, especially for the youth and the new generation.
He points out that much of the content about Ezidi culture usually comes from older generations or small Instagram pages, and that this content is often difficult for younger generations to understand. SELODEUXSEPT highlights a gap that exists between generations, one that appears to be growing larger each day. There is both a generational difference and a gap in knowledge and language transfer between older and younger generations. Reaching young people was therefore exactly what he aimed to do.
You listen to it more often; you feel it more deeply. That is exactly why this song was created: to show young people who we are and that we can be proud of it.
However, the song is not only for Ezidis. SELODEUXSEPT explains that he has also received many messages from non-Ezidis who listen to the song daily. That is precisely what makes it special. It is a song that conveys pride and strength and can still be felt by everyone who listens to it.
Ultimately, SELODEUXSEPT shares that his goal is to motivate Ezidis and give them strength, no matter which country they live in or where they come from. In the end, all Ezidis belong together and should always stand together.
This song is meant to reflect strength, pride, and unity. I hope that every single person feels exactly this strength and pride when they hear the music and remembers who we are and what we stand for.
Who is SELODEUXSEPT?
When listening to an artist’s work, the public often becomes curious about the person behind the music. Naturally, this leads to the question of who SELODEUXSEPT is and how the artist came to be.
SELODEUXSEPT is a 24-year-old Ezidi from Bielefeld, Germany. His artist name was created in 2019. Like many rappers, he started with freestyles. He explains that it was his cousin who encouraged him to take it seriously and upload his rap parts on Instagram. This marked the beginning of a journey that eventually led to his current success.
Although the artist possesses great inner strength, he shares that he draws much of his strength from his mother and from God. This is what keeps him moving forward and prevents him from giving up, especially during moments when life feels difficult or hopeless.
Before becoming known as SELODEUXSEPT, he was given the name Selmanya and was often called SELO for short. The second part of his artist name, DEUXSEPT, holds a deeply personal meaning. DEUXSEPT means “2” and “7” in French, and he explains that it represents something private between himself and God.

DEUXSEPT stands for something between me and God (2) and the seven angels (7). These days, too many people are overly concerned with someone’s private life and actions. That’s why the message behind it is that no matter what happens in your life, it concerns only you. It is something between you and the one above.

When speaking about his past, SELODEUXSEPT explains that he has always loved making music. Even during his early school years, he used school breaks and class trips to write lyrics and listen to beats. Music, he says, is what truly calms him and gives him peace of mind.
Despite his current success and the encouragement he receives today, his journey was not without criticism. He shares that in the beginning he was often laughed at and not taken seriously. However, SELODEUXSEPT always knew what music meant to him and did not allow negativity to change his pursuit of it.
What can we expect from SELODEUXSEPT?
Looking at the bigger picture and his plans for the future, particularly for the year 2026, SELODEUXSEPT shares that he wants to become one of the biggest artists in Germany. He also speaks about a deeply personal life goal.
When I get old, I want to be able to say to myself that I fulfilled all my dreams and those of my family.
According to him, 2026 will be the year in which he shows everyone what he is truly capable of. He explains that his sleepless nights, consistency, and constant self-improvement will become visible through his work.
When asked whether Ezidis can expect more powerful tracks like Je m’appelle Ezidi, or whether such songs must come naturally and cannot be planned, he shares that many powerful projects are on the way. While something exactly like Je m’appelle Ezidi is not currently planned, he can imagine it happening and would be open to it. A feature is also possible, though nothing has been decided yet.
When speaking about the circumstances he wishes for in order to fully excel as a rapper, he gives an unexpected answer. Regardless of whether conditions are easy or difficult, everything is exactly as it should be because it is all fate.
The conditions, whether difficult or easy, are exactly the right ones. Because everything in life is written.
This philosophy reflects the mindset of the artist behind Je m’appelle Ezidi, an artist who has become a true inspiration not only for Ezidis, but for anyone striving to achieve their goals in life. SELODEUXSEPT has become who he is through hard work, dedication, respect for his Ezidi roots, and faith in God.
At Ezidi Times, we are honoured to report on such an exceptional Ezidi talent and to be among the first to interview him before his rise to even greater success and larger stages. We wish him continued success, many more powerful rap songs, and future releases that are just as, or even more, impactful.
