On July 25th, 2025, beloved Ezidi singer and songwriter Diana Kalashova released a deeply personal duet titled “SISTER”, performed alongside her younger sister, Sofia Kalashova. The song was first revealed to a live audience at Sofia’s wedding—an emotional and heartfelt performance that quickly touched many. Now, just days after its official release, Diana opens up to Ezidi Times about the story behind the song, the creative process, and the meaning it holds for her and her family.

Her native language, Ezdiki, gives the song a distinct emotional resonance. As with much of Diana’s music, this song is not just about sound—it’s about roots, memory, and connection. For many listeners, the use of Ezdiki evokes both pride and nostalgia, especially for those who long to hear their language represented in contemporary music.

But SISTER was not created alone. Diana explains that the songwriting process was a collaborative, family-centered experience.

“This song was so fun to write because it was written by the whole family,” Diana explain proudly. “Most of the lyrics were written by the talented musician Hamid. My granny also had a very important role in writing, so I’m very grateful for her time and energy that she gave to this song.”

The involvement of multiple generations gives SISTER a richness and emotional depth. It’s more than a duet—it’s a tapestry of voices and memories woven into one musical thread.

When asked about her creative process and where she finds inspiration, Diana emphasises the importance of spontaneity and freedom.

While SISTER may have started as a spontaneous idea, its creation unfolded with the kind of emotional intuition that Diana has come to embrace in her artistry. Songwriting, for her, isn’t about structure or schedules—it’s about moments that arrive when they’re ready. Whether a melody appears while walking, cooking, or even during a quiet moment at home, Diana is always ready to catch it.

She describes her process as natural and flowing. When inspiration strikes, she reaches for her phone, records the melody, and often sends it straight to her producer to begin shaping it. “It’s a very free process,” she says. “No stress—just going with the flow.”

But when it comes to the final touches, her playful creativity gives way to meticulous precision. Known among those close to her for her sensitive ear, Diana admits that she can get caught up in the tiniest details—listening to a mix over and over until it feels just right. “I can’t even sleep after a studio session,” she shares, Because I’m too excited about doing what I love!

In the Czech Republic, where she lives and creates, Diana navigates a music scene that can be both supportive and traditional. She notes that older generations often prefer classic Czech sounds, while younger listeners are more open to international music. Still, her Ezdiki songs have struck a surprising chord.

Czechs loooove my Ezidish music,” she says. That warms my heart so much.”

Despite her growing popularity, Diana is clear that music is not—and has never been—about money. Her passion is what drives her. It’s the feeling of making something meaningful, the connection with her audience, and the chance to express her deepest emotions through sound.

She also has a secret—dozens of unreleased songs and demos stored away on her phone. Some are playful, others raw, many recorded in fleeting moments—some even while she was in the shower. “There is my secret box of music,” she smiles. “But it’s just for my ears.”

With SISTER, though, she made the decision to share something deeply personal. A tribute to her sister, her family, and to the bond that ties them together. And when asked what message she hopes listeners take from the song, Diana shares:

“Through this song, I want to celebrate the love and friendship between sisters. My message to the listeners is to cherish your siblings because they are often the closest people you’ll ever have in life. Be kind to each other, forgive past mistakes and let your love rise above everything. I hope the song brings joy to my fans and reminds them of the beauty of family bonds.”

To celebrate the release, Ezidi Times has produced an official lyrics video (in ezdiki) for SISTER, which can be found on Ezdii Times’ official YouTube channel. The video captures the warmth and connection between Diana and Sofia, and offers fans a closer look at the lyrics—sung with love, written with meaning, and rooted in Ezidi culture.

As Diana continues to create music that blends modern sound with her ancient Ezidi identity, her voice remains a powerful reminder that being Ezidi is not just a heritage—it’s a living, evolving expression of art, strength, and love.
